Named after plant collector David Douglas, this tall fir is valued for its fine timber. BARK Dark gray or purple, fissured. LEAF Soft, green needles; two white bands beneath. FLOWER Males: yellow, beneath shoots; females: red, on shoot tips. FRUIT Pendent cone, pale brown.
