Also called the Weymouth pine, this tree was once extensively logged to construct ships’ masts. BARK Gray, becoming furrowed with purple-tinged rectangular plates. LEAF Needles, in bundles of five. FLOWER Males: yellow, in clusters at the base of shoots; females: pinkish, in pairs at the end of shoots. FRUIT Bananashaped, pale brown cones, in clusters.
