Also called the white fir, this tree thrives in moist areas. BARK Gray-green, smooth with resin blisters. LEAF Flat needles, on either side of shoot, 3⁄4–21⁄4 in (2–6 cm) long, dark green above with two silver bands below. FLOWER Males: small and purple, beneath shoots; females: green. FRUIT Erect, resinous, cylindrical brown cone, 2–43⁄4 in (5–12 cm) long.
