The fruit of this small tree is an important crop in South America and the Mediterranean. BARK Purplish gray-brown, flaking to orange-brown. LEAF Alternate, ovate to oblong, with untoothed margins. FLOWER Terminal, solitary, large with five whitish to pink petals. FRUIT Large, fragrant, pear-shaped pome, downy when young, yellow when ripe.
